Blood diamonds are diamonds that are implicated in detestably gruesome human rights abuse including diamond-fueled violence, extreme child labor law violations, and the undoing and destruction of our environment.

Diamond-fueled violence include diamonds that are illegally extracted and then sold to fund brutal conflicts in war torn areas, particularly in western and central Africa. The United Nations calls and classifies Blood Diamonds as “Conflict diamonds.” These are diamonds that come from areas controlled and restricted by para-military factions and forces that are adamantly opposed to recognizing legitimate and internationally recognized governments.

As a matter of fact, left to their own devices, these factions will attempt to overthrow the said governments. That’s another reason why Blood Diamonds are so lethal; they are used to fund para-military actions against the controlling governments. In a nutshell, if you are unwittingly purchasing Blood Diamonds, you are supporting brutal regimes that ultimately may seek to plan attacks against the United States and its allies.
